National Park Group Bus Tour Guide 2026: Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion, Glacier, Acadia, Shenandoah
The 2026 guide to group bus tours of US national parks. Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Glacier, Acadia, Shenandoah. Coach-accessible routes, lodging clusters, 4-10 day itineraries, all-in pricing.
National parks are not all coach-friendly. Yellowstone and Glacier have specific bus permit rules; Yosemite restricts large vehicles on Tioga Pass; the South Rim of the Grand Canyon limits commercial bus access at certain entrances. The guide below covers the 8 most-booked national parks for group bus tours, what permits are needed, where the lodging clusters work for a coach, and what the all-in pricing looks like.
1. Yellowstone National Park (WY/MT/ID)
Coach access: All 5 entrances accept commercial buses with permits. North entrance (Gardiner MT) and West entrance (West Yellowstone MT) are easiest for group access.
Permits: NPS Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) required for tour-style operations. We file in advance.
Lodging clusters: West Yellowstone MT (most options), Gardiner MT, Cody WY. Inside-park lodging (Old Faithful Inn, Lake Yellowstone Hotel) books 12+ months ahead.
Itinerary: 4–6 days covers the figure-8 loop. Add 2 days for Grand Teton add-on.
Vehicle: 40-pax mini-coach (better for Lamar Valley side roads) or 56-pax motor coach for main-route groups.
Pricing: $19,000–$28,000 all-in for a 5-day, 35-person group with Bozeman or Salt Lake origin.
2. Yosemite National Park (CA)
Coach access: Valley loop accessible to motor coaches. Tioga Pass (Hwy 120) restricts vehicles over 25 ft in length — limits 56-pax to in-and-out via the same entrance.
Permits: NPS CUA required. We file.
Lodging clusters: Mariposa, Oakhurst, Fish Camp (south side); El Portal (west); Lee Vining (east side — Tioga Pass access only).
Itinerary: 3–4 days for Valley + Mariposa Grove. 5–7 days adds high country (Tuolumne Meadows) via a smaller second vehicle.
Vehicle: 40-pax mini-coach is the safer pick for full park access.
Pricing: $14,500–$21,500 all-in for a 4-day, 35-person group with SF or Sacramento origin.
3. Grand Canyon National Park (AZ)
Coach access: South Rim accepts motor coaches with permit. North Rim has a shorter season (May–October) and tighter parking.
Permits: NPS CUA required for the South Rim corridor.
Lodging clusters: Tusayan AZ (gateway, lots of hotels), Williams AZ (Route 66 town, 1 hour out), Flagstaff AZ (2 hours, better hotels), Page AZ (for North Rim + Antelope Canyon add-on).
Itinerary: 3–5 days South Rim only. 6–8 days adds Sedona, Page, Lake Powell.
Vehicle: 56-pax motor coach works for South Rim. 40-pax better for combined Sedona itineraries.
Pricing: $12,500–$19,500 all-in for a 4-day, 40-person group with Phoenix or Las Vegas origin.
4. Zion National Park (UT)
Coach access: Private vehicles restricted on Zion Canyon Scenic Drive — group must use park shuttles inside the canyon (free, runs all day). Group bus drops + parks at Visitor Center.
Permits: NPS CUA required.
Lodging clusters: Springdale UT (immediately outside park gate), St. George UT (1 hour, more hotels).
Itinerary: 2–3 days Zion only. 5–7 days adds Bryce + Capitol Reef ("Grand Circle" — see below).
Vehicle: 40-pax mini-coach.
Pricing: $10,500–$14,500 all-in for a 3-day, 30-person group with Las Vegas or SLC origin.
5. Glacier National Park (MT)
Coach access: Going-to-the-Sun Road has strict vehicle length restrictions: 21 feet max length, 8 feet max width. Standard 40- and 56-pax coaches CANNOT traverse the road. Groups must use park-operated red bus tours or smaller charter vehicles.
Workaround: 28-pax mini-bus fits the 21-ft restriction. We book those for Glacier-specific itineraries.
Lodging clusters: West Glacier MT, East Glacier MT, Whitefish MT (1 hour from west entrance).
Itinerary: 3–5 days. Often paired with Yellowstone for a 7–10 day Montana national-park circuit.
Vehicle: 28-pax mini-bus required for Going-to-the-Sun Road access.
Pricing: $11,500–$16,000 all-in for a 4-day, 25-person group.
6. Acadia National Park (ME)
Coach access: Park Loop Road accommodates motor coaches. Cadillac Mountain summit road has a length restriction for larger vehicles + requires reservations in summer.
Permits: NPS CUA required.
Lodging clusters: Bar Harbor ME (right outside park), Ellsworth ME (15 min west, less expensive).
Itinerary: 3–4 days. Peak season July–October.
Vehicle: 40-pax mini-coach is the sweet spot.
Pricing: $11,000–$15,500 all-in for a 4-day, 32-person group with Boston or Portland ME origin.
7. Shenandoah National Park (VA)
Coach access: Skyline Drive accommodates motor coaches end-to-end. Bus parking at all major overlooks.
Permits: NPS CUA recommended for organized tours.
Lodging clusters: Front Royal VA (north entrance), Luray VA (mid-park), Waynesboro VA (south entrance), Charlottesville VA (1 hour south, better hotels).
Itinerary: 2–3 days. Often a day-trip add-on from DC-area groups.
Vehicle: 56-pax motor coach.
Pricing: $5,500–$8,500 all-in for a 2-day, 40-person group from DC, Baltimore, or Richmond.
8. Bryce Canyon + Grand Circle (UT)
Coach access: Bryce accepts motor coaches. Combine with Zion + Capitol Reef + Arches + Canyonlands for the "Grand Circle" — 7–10 day Utah national-park tour.
Permits: NPS CUA for each park visited.
Lodging clusters: Bryce Canyon City, Tropic UT (Bryce); Springdale (Zion); Torrey (Capitol Reef); Moab (Arches + Canyonlands).
Itinerary: 7–10 days for the full Circle. 4–5 days for Zion + Bryce only.
Vehicle: 40-pax mini-coach. Better for Capitol Reef + Arches scenic roads.
Pricing: $24,000–$33,000 all-in for an 8-day, 35-person Grand Circle group with Las Vegas or SLC origin.
How national park bus tours actually book
- Book 6–12 months ahead for peak season (May–September). NPS CUA permits take 30–60 days. Park lodging fills 9+ months out.
- Group sizes 25–56 are the sweet spot. Smaller = drop down to a 14-pax sprinter. Larger = two-vehicle convoy.
- Driver lodging is included in our all-in price — typically a separate hotel room each night near the group's hotel.
- Park entrance fees are separate. Most groups buy an Annual Pass ($80) for the bus + driver and have attendees pay individual entries (or we coordinate group rates).
