State Park & Water Park Group Bus Tours 2026: Schlitterbahn, Wisconsin Dells, Six Flags, State Park Camping Trips
Group bus tours to state parks and water parks — Schlitterbahn, Wisconsin Dells, Great Wolf Lodge, Six Flags, plus state park camping and hiking trips. Vehicle sizing, gear capacity, pricing for groups of 20-56.
State parks and water parks share one logistics nightmare: parking. Schlitterbahn lots fill by 10 AM on a Saturday in July. Wisconsin Dells lot prices hit $40 a vehicle. State park campsite parking is limited to one car per site. Six Flags lots are a half-mile walk from the gate. A group charter bus eliminates all of it: one stop at the gate, one stop at the campsite, one ride home with everyone accounted for.
This guide covers the four common trip types — water park day trips, state park camping trips, multi-park theme weekends, and seasonal trips (foliage tours, ski trips, beach state parks) — with vehicle sizing, pricing, and the booking logistics that decide whether the trip is smooth.
Water Park Group Day Trips
The most common group bus booking we run in summer. Three sub-categories:
Indoor water park resorts (year-round)
- Great Wolf Lodge (multiple US locations) — overnight resort with indoor water park. Groups typically book a 2-day, 1-night trip with the bus dropping off Friday afternoon and picking up Sunday morning. 40-pax mini-coach is the sweet spot.
- Kalahari Resorts (Sandusky OH, Wisconsin Dells, Pocono Mountains) — larger indoor water parks with more capacity for big groups. 56-pax motor coach works here.
- Camelback Lodge & Aquatopia (Tannersville PA) — popular for school groups and youth-group trips from NJ/NY/PA. 40- or 56-pax depending on chaperone count.
Outdoor water parks (summer day trips)
- Schlitterbahn (New Braunfels TX, Galveston TX) — Texas favorite. Group bus drops at the front gate, parks in the designated coach lot, picks up at close. 56-pax motor coach for groups 35–56.
- Six Flags Hurricane Harbor (multiple US locations) — paired with a Six Flags theme park. Group bus drops + parks all day, picks up at close. Use the Six Flags group sales line for ticket pricing.
- Wisconsin Dells water park strip — multiple parks within walking distance. 40-pax mini-coach is best because the route between parks is short.
- Splashdown / regional water parks (Splash Country in TN, Soaky Mountain in TN, Splashway in TX, Hurricane Harbor in AZ/NJ/CA, etc.) — same model.
Group bus advantages for water-park trips
- Wet swimsuits on the bus ride home aren't a problem — under-floor cargo holds dry clothes for everyone
- Tubes and floats stored in the cargo bay — no roof rack drama
- No kid loses their phone in 5 different cars — everyone arrives together, everyone leaves together
- Parking is included in the charter price — no $40-per-car surprise
- Restroom on the 40- and 56-pax models — the bus ride back is when everyone realizes they're tired and hungry
State Park Camping Group Trips
State park trips are different from water-park day trips: the bus typically drops the group at the campsite, leaves, and returns at the end of the stay. Sometimes the bus stays onsite for mid-trip excursions (hiking trail trailheads, scenic overlooks, nearby town for groceries).
Popular destinations we run:
- Custer State Park, SD — bison + Mount Rushmore + Crazy Horse + Needles Highway. 4-day group trip from Sioux Falls, Omaha, or Denver. 40- or 56-pax.
- Hocking Hills State Park, OH — popular weekend trip from Columbus, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh. 2-day trip with one overnight.
- Letchworth State Park, NY ("Grand Canyon of the East") — day trip or overnight from NYC, Buffalo, Rochester.
- Watkins Glen State Park, NY — Finger Lakes day trip + winery tour combo.
- Garner State Park, TX — Texas Hill Country, Frio River. Weekend camping trip from San Antonio, Austin, Houston.
- Cuyahoga Valley National Park, OH (technically NPS but often state-park-style group trips) — Cleveland/Akron day trips.
- Custer Gallatin National Forest + adjacent state parks (MT) — multi-day Yellowstone-adjacent group trips.
Camping gear capacity
A 56-pax motor coach under-floor cargo holds roughly:
- 50 personal-bag setups + 12 large tents + 8 sleeping-bag bundles + 4 large coolers, OR
- 40 personal-bag setups + cooking gear for the whole group (2 stoves, fuel, pots, dishes) + 6 large coolers + 4 folding tables, OR
- 30 personal-bag setups + 2 inflatable kayaks + 10 sleeping pads + 6 fishing rods + 4 large coolers
For longer camping trips (4+ days) we recommend a dedicated cargo trailer hitched to a 40-pax mini-coach — adds $200/day and roughly doubles total cargo capacity.
Multi-Park Theme Weekends
Some trips bundle a water park, a theme park, and an evening event. Common combos:
- Six Flags Great Adventure + Hurricane Harbor + Jersey Shore evening (Jackson NJ) — 2-day, 1-night for groups of 30+. 40-pax mini-coach.
- Cedar Point + Soak City + Sandusky lakefront (Sandusky OH) — 2 or 3-day with overnight at Castaway Bay. 40- or 56-pax.
- Wisconsin Dells multi-park weekend — Mt. Olympus + Noah's Ark + Kalahari combo. 56-pax motor coach is the right call because the gear load is heavy.
- Carowinds + theme weekend (Charlotte NC) — popular church-group and school-group trip from Atlanta, Greenville, Knoxville.

FAQ
Can the bus stay onsite at the state park all weekend?
Most state parks have a designated bus parking area near the visitor center. Ranger approval is typically required for overnight bus parking — we coordinate that. Driver bills standby hours when not actively driving + lodging.
What about wet swimsuits on the bus ride home from a water park?
Standard. The bus has rubber-floor easy-clean surfaces in the aisles. Bring towels for the seats and dry clothes for the cargo bay — we recommend a "wet bag" per family.
Do water parks accept group bus drop-offs?
Almost all major water parks have a designated bus or coach drop-off lane. Schlitterbahn, Six Flags, Kalahari, Great Wolf Lodge, and Wisconsin Dells parks all have dedicated group bus areas. We confirm the drop-off location with the park before the trip.
Can we bring our own coolers, food, and drinks on the bus?
Absolutely. Under-floor cargo handles 8+ large coolers without issue. Alcohol is allowed on the bus ride (CDL driver = no open-container law). Note: most water parks don't allow outside food or drink inside the gates, so consume on the bus during the ride or at the parking-lot tailgate.
What about during peak summer weekends — Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day?
Book 8+ weeks ahead. Holiday weekend availability is the tightest in our entire calendar. Saturday in July is the second-tightest after holidays.
