US Bus Trips — Long-Distance Charter Buses Across the USA

Marching band, concert band, symphonic band, jazz band, show choir, and drum corps competitions all involve multi-day out-of-state travel with instruments, uniforms, props, and 40-90 students + directors + chaperones. A charter coach with underfloor instrument bays is the standard vehicle for Bands of America (BOA), DCI, Music For All, Chorus America, and state music-education conferences.

Instrument Bay Sizing — What Fits

A 56-passenger motor coach underfloor bay holds sousaphones (with proper padding), snare drums, marching cymbals, mellophones, marching baritones, and hard-cased brass. Larger props (drum majors' podiums, props for BOA field shows) sometimes need a trailer tow-behind or a separate cargo van follow. We spec the right combination based on your travel manifest.

BOA / DCI / Music For All Standard Itineraries

BOA Grand Nationals (Indianapolis, mid-November): most bands from the Northeast/Southeast/Midwest travel by charter coach for the 2-4 day competition. DCI Championships (Indianapolis, August): drum corps travel is done via tour buses (different vehicle spec — we handle those too). Music For All Summer Symposium (Muncie IN, late June): high-school band camp travel.

Booking Windows + School District Requirements

BOA regionals: book coach 4-5 months ahead. Grand Nationals: 8-9 months ahead. Most school districts require: valid DOT number (we're SXL DOT #3548261), $5M+ liability insurance, criminal background-checked driver, no driver duty-hour violations in 90 days. We provide all documentation with the quote.

Chaperone + Instructor Seating

Standard split: 40-42 student seats + 8-10 chaperone/instructor seats + driver = 56-passenger coach. For larger programs (80-90 students) we deploy 2 coaches with a lead-follow configuration. Chaperone seats at the front for supervision, chaperone-to-student ratios per your district policy (typically 1:10).
